Q. 1 "Hochschule" what's that?

The German Hochschule - University of Applied Sciences - is a type of academic institution, which differs from a traditional university mainly in its practical orientation. Its goal is to convey scientific knowledge with specific emphasis on practical applications. Subjects taught include engineering, computerscience, business & management, art & design, communication studies, social service, and other application-oriented fields.

About: Program

Q. 2 How long is the MBA programme?

A. The standard period of study in this course of studies is four semesters including one external practical semester. If the course is taken as a part time course by somebody already engaged in a profession, the three theoretical full terms are spread over six terms (three years). We have only one entry each year starting in the winter term by October 1

Q. 3 Do you have a part time MBA programme?

A. Yes, we do offer part time programme. In this case lectures are held on Friday afternoon / evening and weekends with the combination of 3-week day-model and block model (lasting the whole day Monday-Saturday).

Q. 4 What is the language of lecture?

A. Lectures are held in english language during the first year. Some lectures during the second year will be held in german.

Q. 5 Will I be tested on another language?

A. After entry to the program, all foreign students are required to attend german as a foreign language course. German students are as well required to attend english as a foreign language course.

Q. 6 What are the admission requirements?

A. To be considered for admission, students must have:

Applicants are required to have a Bachelor Degree (or higher) in the field of Business Administration or an equivalent entrance qualification (i.e. GMAT; Graduate Management Admission Test) Work experience is required.

Or a different academic degree but have gathered experience in this specific field in a managing position in a commercial department for at least two years Successful participation in the selection procedure, including a subject related interview  Proficiency in English Language to understand, speak and write on a Master program level (i.e. UNIcert II, TOEFL 570, CBTOEFL 230, IELTS 6,5) Graduate Management Admission Test: GMAT (recommended)

Q. 7 Can I take GRE instead of GMAT?

A. No, it is not possible.

Q. 8 What is the application deadline?

A. After filling in our application form online on our website, send us a hard copy of the application form and all required documents complete before 15 June at the latest. Otherwise your application con not be considered for the programme start in October each year.

Q. 9 Will I get receipt confirmation of my application ?

A. Yes, we do acknowledge receipt of the application but it is our policy not to answer request about the status of application. We contact the applicants again in writing as soon as their admission decisions are made.

Q. 10 Do you accept application documents in an electronic form?

A. Only our application form has to be filled in on our website. But a professional judgement will only be possible after receiving complete documents via mail.

Q. 11 Can I defer admission?

A. Only in exceptional cases. We do not encourage deferral, and requests are examined on an individual basis by the Admissions Committee.

Q. 12 Do you accept certificates/degrees written in another language except English or German?

A. The university do not accept certificates/degrees written in another language except English or German. To obtain a certified translation, we recommend student to contact local German consulate. Otherwise a professional judgement will not be possible.

Q. 13 What is the Institution code of the University for sending the TOEFL/GMAT official score?

A. Our institution code number for GMAT and TOEFL is  7450

Q. 14 Can I come and visit the campus at any time?

A. Yes, we encourage students to visit our campus but we cannot guarantee that anybody will be available to answer your questions.

About: Campus life

Q. 16 What about my accommodation?

A. The international office supports student by looking for accommodation. Some students are offered a flat in our student residences with 450 modern single apartments with kitchen, bathroom/WC, modern facilities. The apartments are at least to be rented for half a year (September-February and March-August).

Q. 17 Is there any on arrival support?

A. Yes, we provide an arrival receive services within the city. Students are required to inform us in time to have this services. We also offer an orientation week to the new students for residence permit, insurance etc.

About: Financial Information

Q. 18 How much is your MBA Programme?

According to the regulations of the MBA Program “Financial Management” there are 1500 Euro per semester Tuition Fees and 35 Euro per semester Enrolment Fees.
Therefore, a student starting Winter Term 2010/11 and completing the study program within 2 years will have to pay a total tuition of 6000 Euro for the entire program

Q. 19 Are there any other fees?

A. Each semester, students are required to pay 35 Euros as an enrolment fee.

Q. 20 What amount of budget should I set aside for the cost of living?

A. In order to carry the personal expenses during the study in Coburg, we recommend for a single person to budget around Euro 400 per month for accommodation, living costs, health insurance, books and miscellaneous expenses.

Q. 21 Are there any scholarship funds available for the MBA student?

A. Our university does not offer any scholarships for MBA students. There are many organisations in Germany which provide scholarships for students from abroad. Q. 22 Can a student be a teaching assistant here?

A. Yes, students with a competitive academic performance and who demonstrate superior ability can be a teaching assistant. But it is only on demand and is not paid sufficiently to finance a study in Germany.
