For the Mind

Seriously interested? Thinking about it? Well, this web page is intended to serve the mind. Arguments, arguments and more arguments.

What's the difference between a Fachhochschule and a Normal University? How is the university rated? How important is it to command  the German Language? Who should i contact if i need help? What kind of facilities does this university have? How can i access study materials? Who is responsible for what here?

Well here you go, as cleared in other sections of this web site, a "Fachhochschule" which exactly translates to a "Sceince specific High school" is different in that, you have to do a five to six month practical training at a relevant organisation to complete your studies.

Theoratical sceince that has been acquired during the academic studies has to be applied in a real life situation. Many professionals selecting young people for well paid jobs, are not impressed anymore by high flying notes alone, they are rather interested in the overall competence of a candidate.

Getting  a practice place in a german company is totally dependent on you though, first on the list is: German language proficiency, which you have a year and a half to work on here in Germany, second is professionalism and apperance and last but not least is the academic and practical experiences that you have built over the years.

There will be multiple chances to get into contact with industry professionals, be it through the Professors, the MBA office, or during the many seminars and company visits that take place during the academic part of the study.

As mentioned before mastering the german language is not so important in the begining of your staying and studying here at Germany, but later on it is really very important to have good command of the german language.

Well no worries, the "Studienkolleg" which is the body responsible for equalising students non-german academic certifications, also provides extensive Courses for german to suit different levels. This is a golden chance because the fees are very low compared to other places in addition  to the fact that it is a highly accredited certificate.

There are no official ratings for universities in Germany, because education remains till now a state funded activity, thus, universities are supervised by the state and have to acheive certain level of excellency, because they are funded by taxpayers' money, so all universties have more or less the same standard here in Germany.

There are many places where you get a lot of help here at the FH Coburg. whether in the MBA office or the international office, be it the library or the professors, all you need to do is to record the consultation hours that the offices are open through, and pay them a visit. Usually these offices are open during week days from 9:00 till 12:00 professors on the other hand have special consultation hours.

As any modern university, FH Coburg has many facilities as you might expect, and instead of just mentioning  the hard facts like how many lecture Halls does the university have -because there are too many to count- it is better to know that all Halls are equipped with the latest state of the art media equippment like: Beamers, Data Show, TV-Video playback systems.

The library of the FH Coburg is part of the electronically linked Libraries of the whole state of Bavaria, so you can order any book from anywhere in Bavaria and get deliverd right to your door step!

So to Wrap it up: Deciding to study at one of the universities of one of the richest states of Germany is a totally sound decision.
