Previously used development methods usually try to produce as many variants of solutions as possible but without suitable orientation. A solution inappropriate for the future market may be produced or the wrong problem may be solved. With WOIS, on the other hand, the solution efforts are focussed in the right direction. Solution requirements are set so high that a solution of the task seems impossible. When combined with solution tools, this produces higly innovative results.
Oriented Innovation Strategy (WOIS) is a development strategy, which when applied to new products and processes, results in their aimed provocation. By applying WOIS, future development barriers of a single product as well as the effectivity of an entire company can be defined a head of time. Efficiency is defined as:
efficieny = utility / effort
With WOIS we endeavour, not only to reduce costs, but also to specifically define the future for new products and processes. It is not possible, simply by reducing cost to create new and exciting products.
Current tools used to enhance creativity when designing and developing new products, try to create as many variants as possible, without first determining the proper direction. WOIS on the other hand, initially sets the proper direction for development with a goal so high that a solution seems impossible.
The innovation strategy is essentially divided into 3 sections:
Particularly important in WOIS is the orientation stage. The basic idea is the thesis: "A correctly defined development task requires more creativity than its solution and a properly defined task is already more than half the solution".
The orientation section makes use of:
analysing the evolutionary stage of the current state of technical development to increase the accuracy of predictions and to derive the ideal direction for development.
The next step use the orientation to identify the development contradictions:
The solution section makes use of the following steps to achieve innovative approaches to solutions:
to optimize these innovative approaches to solutions:
Experiences with numerous companies, each with different problem areas, has shown that the application of WOIS requires not only creative phases, but phases of hard work. The application of WOIS does not automatically guaranty innovative solutions, but does increase the probability of finding suitable future-oriented systems. When solving a problem, we usually define several solutions which can be realized in the shortterm, midterm and longterm.
