Coburg is a small historical town in the north of Bavaria, the closest cities are Nuernberg and Bamberg. The population of Coburg amounts to 42 000 inhabitants. Climate is quite mild with a beautiful warm summer and snowy winter.
Thanks to the dukes of Sachsen-Coburg and Gotha, Coburg became the cradle of European high nobility. A guided tour of the town is like time travel through history. Many famous people felt at home in Coburg, such as Martin Luther, Queen Victoria, the poets Friedrich Rueckert and Jean Paul.
The Coburg region is like a large garden with castles, mansions and romantic half-timbered houses, and its symbol, the Veste Coburg, is visible from afar. There is a Schloss Rosenau – Queen Victoria’s favourite place and prince Albert’s, her husband’s birthplace – with its spacious landscape gardens, the little town of Sesslach, a true Franconian gem of the Middle Ages, Schloss Tambach with its wildlife park.
The dukes of Coburg were great patrons of fine arts and splendid collections set up. The Veste Coburg, where Martin Luther once sought refuge, houses art collections of international repute.
Coburg has many interesting things to offer to all those who want to broaden their cultural horizons. Just being here, taking a walk in this medieval almost mystic town enriches you and gives you a feeling of joy and cultural awareness.
As a student here, especially as an international one, you have this unique opportunity to live the cultural life of Coburg.
Besides all this Coburg is widely known for its two festivals: Samba Festival and Johann Strauss Musiktage. In these days locals and tourists from all over the Germany and world take part in beautiful and unique events and going home they have priceless memories for whole their life.
Coburg University of Applied Sciences has oriented itself towards the needs of industry and commerce in its catchment area characterized by medium-sized enterprises. It serves both as a training provider with its range of practice-related studies and is an important source of professional expertise to the local community and beyond because of an ongoing commitment of staff to applied research.
Hopefully you could also take advantage of these opportunities and get to know the cultural side of this fascinating German town – Coburg.
