Since the prices for accommodation do not include catering, most of the students will have to take care about their own meals. As a student you can prepare your own meal or eat in the Student Mensa. In the university there is also a vending machine with coffee and snacks, a cup of coffee will cost you about 0.60 Euro and a chocolate or snack 0.60-0.90 Euro. The student canteen - Mensa is open from Monday to Friday 11 am to 2 pm (1:30 pm on Friday ). For an average meal here you will have to pay about 1,5-3,00 Euro. But as Mensa is closed on Weekends, even those who regularly have the meal there will need to fill their fridges.

All the typical European food products can be found in the local retail food stores. The closest ones are at 15-20 minutes walk from the Campus. Their opening time is usually from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.  and on Sundays they are closed.

There is a train station in the center of Coburg (Hauptbahnhof) where train connections to Germany, Austria and other countries can be taken. The nearest big transportation center with airport and significant railway station  is Nuernberg, which is within one hour's reach from Coburg.  If you are planning to travel within Bavaria it may be useful to buy a special "Bayern Ticket", which offers the possibility to travel within Bavaria with 5 persons for ca. 30 Euros for a whole day. Should you have a plan to travel on weekends there is an option to buy a weekend ticket for 5 persons, which costs ca. 40 Euros and allows you to travel within Germany for 1 day. In Coburg there is a wide net of buses, a single trip costs 1.40 to 1.70 Euro.

It is a very good idea to plan your trip with the railways in advance, because it can save you up to 40-70 percent of the ticket price, depending on the time of booking.
