The master's program in Analytical Instruments, Measurement and Sensor Technology (AIMS) is a 2 year (4 semesters) international M. Eng. program in cooperation between Coburg University of Applied Sciences (Hochschule Coburg) and the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST), China. In certain cases there will also be an option to elect another foreign university.

The objective of the program is to qualify students in the methods and technologies used in the field of the study program as well as to train them on how to apply those methods and technologies of this field within different practical projects. Throughout the program, participants have an opportunity to further their academic and practical experience, as they will get to know, connect and work with industrial and scientific partners in Germany and China or other foreign countries.

The engineering program primarily focuses on principles and applications in the fields of measurement devices and procedures such as sensor technology, computer based measurement technology, analytic instruments, nanometrology, optoelectronic sensors and digital signal processing. Language training and intercultural soft skills will complete the program. Laboratory exercises, project studies and computer assisted lectures will be incorporated into the program to provide additional support for effective learning.

The language of instruction is English for the whole duration of the program. In addition, there will be courses in German and Chinese or other foreign languages except English offered to the students at various levels and form part of the curriculum.

After successfully completing the study program including the master thesis at the end of the fourth semester, the master degree will be awarded. Consequently, the participants will obtain a “Master of Engineering – M.Eng.” from Coburg University of Applied Sciences. Students from the cooperation with USST may additionally obtain a second degree from USST, which is still to be approved by Chinese authorities.

The tuition fees will be paid at the university where the student stays for the current semester. The fee at both universities is 2,000 Euros for each semester, i.e. 8,000 Euro for the whole master program.
