In der Vortragsreihe „Trends der Fahrzeugtechnik“ sprechen im Sommersemester 2023 namhafte Expert:innen über aktuelle Herausforderungen und Entwicklungen.

Thema ist eine effektive Lösung zur Minimierung der Stickstoffdioxid-Emissionen von Wasserstoffverbrennungsmotoren: Es geht darum, wie mit Hilfe einer Lean NOx Trap (LNT), auch als Stickoxidfalle bezeichnet, aktuelle und künftige Emissionsvorschriften eingehalten werden können. Der Vortrag findet in englischer Sprache statt. Referentin Dr. Bárbara Costa fasst das Thema ihres Vortrags so zusammen:

NOx-free combustion in H2 engines is not feasible since its high combustion temperatures and lean operation result in NOx formation, which can be reduced to a minimum by an intelligent controlled combustion process in lean operation, with exhaust gas recirculation and a robust exhaust aftertreatment system.

The lean NOx trap (LNT) is a well-known solution that provides an alternative for NOx conversion in internal combustion engines other than the selective catalyst reduction (SCR) system.

The study concluded that the LNT is a robust, suitable, and a promising approach for the deNOx strategy, allowing hydrogen combustion engines to comply with current and future emission regulations.
