Profile of the degree program

In the Health Promotion and Prevention degree program, you will learn what keeps people healthy – and how to strengthen health in a targeted manner. You will deal with current health challenges and develop solutions that make a difference in real life.

You will deal with topics such as public health, epidemiology, health psychology and health communication. You will also learn how to analyze data and apply research in a meaningful way.

In this degree program, you will work on practical projects and combine knowledge from the fields of health, society and business. Important future topics such as digitalization in the healthcare sector and social justice also play a central role. This means you will be well prepared to plan, implement and evaluate healthcare projects later on – and many paths in the healthcare sector will be open to you.

Course content

1st to 4th semester

The theoretical foundations of the course are laid from the first to the fourth semester. Right at the beginning of the course, students work on practical projects in which they can immediately put what they have learned into practice. The course content of the Health Promotion and Prevention degree program ranges from health and psychological principles, research and data analysis to communication, consulting and management in the healthcare sector. Topics such as digitalization and modern healthcare solutions are also an integral part of the course.

5th semester

In the fifth semester, you will complete a supervised internship semester in a healthcare or social services facility. You will be supported by practical courses and can apply your knowledge directly in everyday working life.

6th and 7th semester

In the sixth and seventh semesters, students deepen their knowledge in key areas of health promotion – for example in community health promotion, occupational health management or individual counseling and coaching.

You will also work on a study project with practice partners and complete your studies with a Bachelor's thesis.

Orientation semester

"Health promotion and prevention" sounds exciting, but it's (still) too early to really start studying?
Take advantage of our orientation semester!

Your advantages:

  • Insights into content and working methods

Practice during studies

Projects

You will be involved in practical projects right from the start. Concrete projects with regional and national partners as well as partners from companies and social institutions will challenge you to present your work results confidently and create contacts to practice.

Practical semester

The practical semester usually takes place in the fifth semester of study. It comprises a continuous period of 26 weeks. You will also attend practical courses.

Job & Career

Two people have a social conversation while walking up stairs in a modern building, promoting health. The man in a white shirt gestures as he speaks, while the woman in beige holds a folder. Two other women walk down the stairs behind them. at Hochschule Coburg

After graduating, you will work in health authorities, health insurance companies, companies or social institutions, for example – wherever health is actively promoted. You will develop programs to combat stress at work, plan prevention offers for various target groups or implement health projects in cities and communities.

You will organize workshops, advise people on healthy behaviour, develop health education campaigns or evaluate which measures really work. Project and quality management tasks are also part of the job – from idea to implementation.

Do another master's degree!

After successfully completing their Bachelor's degree, good graduates have the opportunity to gain further qualifications with a Master's degree. For example, Coburg University of Applied Sciences offers Master's degree courses in Applied Health Sciences or Social Work. You can also find an overview of which Master's degree programs you can combine with your Bachelor's degree here.

Curriculum and examination regulations

The module structure and the course structure provide an overview of the course. The module handbook provides information on the content of the individual modules. The study and examination regulations form the legal basis of the degree program. Questions about the content of the course will be answered by the course advisor Prof. Dr. Eberhard Nöfer.
