Leisure time in Coburg

Where do you think the second largest samba festival in the world (after Rio de Janeiro) is celebrated? Of course: in Coburg. But that’s by no means the only surprise for newcomers to the city. Coburg offers plenty of leisure activities for young people. At the HUK Cultural Summer, for example, national and international stars rock the Schlossplatz every year – one of the most beautiful festival locations in Germany. World stars such as Elton John, Scorpions, Bryan Adams, Sting, Whitney Houston, Peter Maffay and PUR have all performed here. The Kulturfabrik in Cortendorf has also hosted open-air concerts since 2024 (Nena, Jan Delay, In Extremo, Wanda, Montez), where everyone gets their money’s worth. The Kongresshaus Coburg hosts concerts, cabaret, lectures and balls all year round.
The wine festival on the market square, the Schlossplatzfest, Schützenfest, flea markets, Coburg dumpling market or the food truck festival etc. round off the program of summer activities. With the Bundesliga clubs HSC Coburg (handball) and BBC Coburg (basketball), there is also top-class sport in the Vestadt – with reduced admission prices for students.

Student associations

Student associations support academic and personal development, offer valuable contacts during studies and for later careers, and provide support in studies and everyday life.
They also enrich student life, for example by organizing a variety of events.

KStV Thuringia

“The Catholic student fraternity Thuringia was founded on 2.6.1962 in Coburg and is a color-wearing, non-voting fraternity of male students. We wear the colors red – gold – blue. In our fraternity life we are guided by four principles:

  • Religion: We are committed to the Catholic faith and are involved in church and society in this spirit.
We therefore also reject dueling and mensuration.
  • Science: As a community of students and academics from all fields of study, we educate ourselves through discussions, lectures and excursions, without neglecting our studies.
  • Friendship: By helping each other in our studies and everyday life, we see ourselves as a bond of friendship and life that does not end when you graduate from university, but continues across generations.
  • Freedom: We are committed to the Basic Law of the Federal Republic of Germany and our liberal democratic values.
We are aware of our shared responsibility for the community and strive to play an active role in shaping it.”
