Profile of the degree program

Would you like to develop new active pharmaceutical ingredients, investigate the effects of biocides on the environment, characterize biomaterials or learn about bioanalytical and bioinformatic analyses in medicine? Then our Bioanalytics degree program is the right place for you.

The Bioanalytics degree program is a broad-based course in which you will learn and master a variety of analytical methods ranging from classical chemical analysis procedures to modern instrumental-analytical and molecular biological methods as well as the associated bioinformatic evaluation and data interpretation.

What we value

Human Biology and Environmental Data Science as specializations

The Bioanalytics degree program provides you with sound biological, analytical and methodological knowledge in the first part of your studies. In the second stage of your studies, you can hone your analytical skills in the field of human biology or environmental data science and thus sharpen your profile. In human biology, you will be able to examine clinical samples such as blood, saliva or tissue for diagnostic purposes and forensic samples for the purpose of identifying the perpetrator and reconstructing the course of the crime. In the Environmental Data Science specialization, you will analyze the impact of anthropogenic substances on ecosystems and model these with the help of modern AI-supported methods. Fully equipped laboratories and PC pool rooms are available for teaching and research work. You will take part in current research, learn in a problem-oriented way and thus be optimally prepared for your career.

Study internationally

7th semester

The Bachelor's thesis is linked to a practical project. It is completed in the 7th semester and is accompanied by a Bachelor's seminar. The Bachelor's thesis can be completed at the university or in cooperation with our external partners in Germany and abroad. This degree course places great emphasis on students' personal responsibility. To support your self-directed and self-responsible learning, attendance times in the lecture rooms are gradually being reduced.

Orientation semester

"Bioanalytics" sounds exciting, but is it (still) too early to really start studying?
Take advantage of our orientation semester!

Your advantages:

  • Insights into content and working methods

In the summer semester 2026, you can take the following courses (modules) from Bioanalytics:

  • Analytics 2
  • Biochemistry 1
  • Biology
  • Microbiology 1
  • Basics in Data Science
  • Mathematical and physical basics 2

You can find more information about the orientation semester here.

Practice during studies

Projects

The course is specifically geared towards the requirements of professional practice. Students put their theoretical knowledge into practice right from the start by working in the laboratory and on various projects. Through the projects, they also establish contacts with professional practice at an early stage.

Practical semester

The practical semester usually takes place in the fourth semester. It comprises a continuous period of 20 weeks. Students also attend practical courses.

The project and bachelor's thesis can be completed both externally and at the in-house Institute of Bioanalytics by working on one of the many research projects with different focal points.

PraxisPLUS

Studying with in-depth practical experience in the PraxisPLUS model offers you the opportunity to gain more practical experience during your studies – without extending the duration of your studies. The prerequisite is a work contract with a company/institution. You can apply your knowledge from the lecture directly at work. The work in the company is remunerated. This in turn makes it easier to finance your studies.

Job & Career

Projects

A group of scientists in lab coats and safety goggles are gathered in a Hochschule Coburg laboratory. One person is seated, explaining something to the standing group, while another handles lab equipment on a table. Various advanced lab instruments are clearly visible around them.

Bioanalytics and its combination with bioinformatics and data science is one of the major growth sectors internationally. Germany has a strong, historically grown chemical industry as well as modern laboratory, biotechnology and environmental technology companies. The demand for specialists and managers in bioanalytics will therefore continue to grow. The Bioanalytics degree course opens up career opportunities ranging from routine analysis in control laboratories to current research in industry and research institutions. A wide variety of professional sectors are open to you. Possible fields of activity include the chemical and pharmaceutical industry, clinical medicine and veterinary medicine, the food industry, toxicology, biotechnology, environmental chemistry and environmental technology.

Do another master's degree!

After successfully completing their studies, students at Coburg University of Applied Sciences have the opportunity to continue their studies with a suitable Master's degree course. For example, the university offers a Master's course in Bioanalytics directly following the Bachelor's course.

You can also find an overview of which Master's degree programs you can combine with your Bachelor's degree here.
