Scholarships

Although applying for a scholarship requires commitment and time from students, it also offers valuable experience and, if successful, numerous benefits. The financial support varies depending on the foundation – from one-off grants for books to monthly payments. Here you will find an overview of the most important scholarships available to you.

Germany Scholarship

The Germany Scholarship gives Coburg University of Applied Sciences the opportunity to provide financial support to particularly committed students and to enable them to make intensive contact with company practice. To this end, we acquire scholarships from companies, institutions and private individuals. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research adds the same amount for each scholarship of 150 euros per month. This enables us to support some of our students with 300 euros per month for two semesters.

When selecting scholarship holders, we attach great importance to outstanding school or academic achievements, extracurricular commitment and personal and family circumstances. Special achievements and practical experience also play a role. You can apply for a Deutschlandstipendium from mid-December to the end of January. Further information and the application documents can be found in the student portal at Coburg University of Applied Sciences (access only with log-in).

For companies - Become a sponsor

Thanks to the Deutschlandstipendium scholarship, young students have been receiving additional funding every month since April 2022, making their studies much easier. You too can become part of the community of sponsors from companies, private individuals or foundations. Support students and draw inspiration from them. Inspire enthusiasm for your company with your interest in combining theory and practice and recruit young talent.

Laura Dorst will be happy to answer any questions by e-mail: deutschlandstipendium@hs-coburg.de.

State organizations for the promotion of gifted children

There are 13 state foundations for the promotion of gifted students in Germany. These foundations award scholarships and support their scholarship holders with extensive accompanying programs such as seminars, mentoring projects and networking events. The selection criteria for admission to the funding organizations are, in particular, talent, commitment and need. The funding programmes are aimed at German and EU-European students as well as foreign students who have a permanent residence perspective within the meaning of § 8 BAföG and who are enrolled at a state or state-recognized university. You can find more information on the requirements in § 8 BAföG. The application deadlines vary – please check them on the website of the respective Begabtenförderungswerk.

The Coburg University of Applied Sciences also uses the right to nominate students for the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes and the Max Weber Program Bavaria and nominates students twice a year who belong to the top group in a long-term comparison. You can also apply yourself or be nominated by people from the university teaching staff throughout the year. Further information is available from our student advisory service.

Bavarian Elite Academy

The Bavarian Elite Academy offers a comprehensive educational program to high-achieving students at Bavarian universities. It takes place over four semesters during the lecture-free period and is aimed at students from all fields of study, but preferably engineering, natural sciences and economics. The Bavarian Elite Academy is a foundation of the Bavarian economy. In order to be accepted into the Bavarian Elite Academy, a multi-stage application process must be completed. Further information can be found on the website of the Bavarian Elite Academy.

Advancement scholarship

Anyone who has successfully completed vocational training, has subsequently worked for a total of at least two years and can demonstrate particular professional achievements can apply for an advancement scholarship. It is aimed at students who have gained several years of professional experience before starting their studies or who have made their way to university via further professional training to become a technician, master craftsman or comparable qualifications. Unlike many other scholarship programs, the “Aufstiegsstipendium” therefore has no age limit for applications. The program is part of the German government’s “Advancement through Education” qualification initiative. The funding programme is aimed at German and EU-European students as well as foreign students who have a permanent residence perspective within the meaning of § 8 BAföG and who are enrolled at a state or state-recognized university. You can find more information on the requirements in § 8 BAföG. Further information on the advancement scholarship is available from the Stiftung Begabtenförderung berufliche Bildung.

Scholarships for international students

The Coburg University of Applied Sciences does not offer general scholarships for students with financial difficulties.

However, international students are encouraged to explore external funding opportunities offered by various organizations in Germany. One of the most important sources is the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), which offers a wide range of scholarships and funding programs for international students.
