Profile of the degree program
Insurance companies are important for the stability of our society and the innovative strength of the economy. Their development and sales departments are therefore working at the cutting edge: digitalization, sustainability and climate change are the big issues. They are looking for creative minds who combine business know-how with an eye for customer needs. The Insurance Management course provides an understanding of all areas that are necessary for the management of a successful company: From sales and marketing to human resources, controlling, risk management and capital investment.
The Bachelor's degree course in Insurance Management can be studied in two variants:
What we value
Well networked during studies
Coburg University of Applied Sciences is part of Forum V – an association of insurance companies, universities and associations in northern Bavaria. Among other things, it also promotes networking between students and potential employers from the insurance industry. Once a year, Forum V organizes the InsureMe – Insurance Meeting Nordbayern (formerly Nordbayerischer Versicherungstag) in cooperation with the Berufsbildungswerk der Deutschen Versicherungswirtschaft (BWV) Nordbayern-Thüringen. Students at Coburg University of Applied Sciences take part once during their studies. You can exchange information on current developments and make important contacts in practice.
Students can also make use of the German Sustainability Network, the sustainability network for the
financial services industry, as Coburg University of Applied Sciences is a member.
Study internationally
At Coburg University of Applied Sciences, students have the opportunity to complete a study or practical semester abroad. To this end, Coburg University of Applied Sciences maintains relationships with foreign partner universities.
Further information is available from the university's Study Abroad service.
Course content and schedule
Practice during studies
Tackling the economy
The course is characterized by a high level of practical relevance and the opportunity to "get to grips" with the subject. This includes a practical semester as well as application-oriented projects and final theses. We have labs for virtual teamwork, eye-tracking, production and simulation techniques. You can get to know these labs in seminars and try out your own ideas. Participation in interdisciplinary student projects is also part of this. The program is rounded off by lecturers from the field who will discuss current challenges in companies with you.
Projects
We attach great importance to increasing the social, communication and networking skills of our students. To this end, we use targeted application-oriented projects. Experts from the field are involved as lecturers. They contribute their experiences and concrete case studies from practice and discuss them with the students.
Practical semester
The practical semester usually takes place in the fifth semester. It comprises a continuous period of 19 weeks. Students also attend practical courses. They can also complete the internship abroad. The International Office at Coburg University of Applied Sciences can provide further information.
PraxisPLUS
Studying with in-depth practical experience in the PraxisPLUS model offers you the opportunity to gain more practical experience during your studies – without extending the duration of your studies. The prerequisite is a contract for work and services with a company/institution. You can apply your knowledge from the lecture directly at work. Work in the company is remunerated. This in turn makes it easier to finance your studies.
Job & Career
The insurance degree programs at Coburg University of Applied Sciences have been certified by Acquin – the international agency for quality assurance in higher education – as being particularly good at preparing students for the demands of the profession. Our graduates have a solid foundation of insurance industry know-how. This qualifies them for specialist and management positions in insurance companies, auditing and consulting firms as well as for the management of insurance agencies or brokerage offices. Their broad knowledge of general business administration also qualifies them for comparable tasks in other sectors.
Do another master's degree!
After successfully completing their studies, students at Coburg University of Applied Sciences have the opportunity to continue their studies with a suitable Master's degree course. The university offers two Master's degree courses that directly follow on from the Bachelor's degree: The Master's degree course in Business Administration and the Master's degree course in Change Management and Transformation. However, it is also possible to complete the Master's degree in Business Administration while working. You can also find an overview of which Master's degree programs you can combine with your Bachelor's degree here.

News from the study program
Lego in insurance studies

Insurance supervision, equity requirements – that sounds like pretty dry material and exhausting lectures. But there is another way. In the third semester of the Bachelor's Insurance course, students used Lego to build their own personal experiences with insurance. They very quickly built claims – such as a motorcycle accident or a house in a flood.
But it's not just specific situations that can be brought to the point with Lego. What is the aim of Solvency II, a major topic in insurance supervision? What are the 3 pillars of Solvency II supposed to achieve? The Lego artworks impressively illustrate aspects such as transparency, communication, sufficient capital, control and sustainability.
Prof. Dr. Jutta Michel is pleased that the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics has enough Lego bricks so that larger groups can also deal creatively with the abstract topics of the course.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Coburg University Association for its generous support!
Industrial insurance up close: Excursion to Kaeser Kompressoren
Around 30 students on the bachelor's degree courses in Insurance Management and Business Administration were given an exciting insight into the real world – during an excursion to Kaeser Kompressoren.
CFO Achim Knauer and insurance specialist Fabio Fenn used a real-life case to demonstrate how central insurance solutions are to the risk management of an industrial company. The starting point was the planned fire insurance for a production hall, for which an insurer refused to provide business interruption cover. Kaeser reacted strategically: investments in sprinkler systems and an additional production hall significantly reduced the risk – and later made the insurance possible without any problems.
The insight was supplemented by Manuel Hergenhan and Rudolf Meier, Managing Directors of insurance broker RMK. They explained how brokers mediate between company interests and insurers and develop individual solutions – especially for complex industrial companies.
A diverse, challenging world of industrial insurance opened up for our students. Particularly inspiring: all three speakers studied economics at our faculty themselves – a good example of the successful career paths of our alumni.
A big thank you to Kaeser Kompressoren and RMK for the exciting excursion and the friendly hospitality!
