"I am committed to strategically expanding the role of the university as a driving force for our region in the innovation triangle and beyond, in order to create strong synergies between science, business and society."

Consultant for sustainable regional development

"I support the visibility and usability of the university's diverse expertise and skills by networking stakeholders both internally and externally. In this way, I promote the sustainable development of our Innovation Triangle region and beyond."

The region in which we operate: a region that connects

Our region connects Upper Franconia with Middle and Lower Franconia, Bavaria with Thuringia and Germany with Europe and the world.

Here, traditional economic and social structures meet strong research and a high level of innovation – particularly in the Coburg-Kronach-Lichtenfels innovation triangle and within the European Metropolitan Region of Nuremberg, we are also part of the EU Regional Innovation Valley: a European innovation area with a diverse research and transfer landscape.

Our pool of expertise – networking knowledge, shaping the future

Coburg University of Applied Sciences and Arts stands for practical research, interdisciplinary expertise and strong regional dialog. With our new competence pool, we are bundling the diverse competencies of our scientists and linking them specifically to current issues of regional development.

The competence pool offers direct contact to expertise from various disciplines – for municipalities, companies, initiatives and projects that are looking for answers to social, technological and economic challenges. Together, we bring scientific perspectives into decision-making processes, support innovative projects and promote sustainable solutions for the region and beyond.

Interaction between university and region

The university supports development, the retention of skilled workers and innovation in the region. At the same time, regional structures, stakeholders and expectations shape the university's tasks. Impact is created where the two are considered together. This is why regional development is a strategic field of work for Coburg University of Applied Sciences and Arts.

Regional challenges with supra-regional significance

Demographics, mobility, a shortage of skilled workers, changes in the retail sector and economic structure, ecological transformation and the rapid development of AI: the changes taking place in our region are exemplary for many other regions in Germany and Europe. At the same time, our region has a high capacity for innovation and a great willingness to shape the future and can serve as an example to others.

How we achieve regional impact

Coburg University of Applied Sciences and Arts works on these topics together with local authorities, companies, institutions and civil society – in research, teaching and transfer.

Coburg University of Applied Sciences and Arts, the Coburg Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the economic development agencies of the city and district have founded the "Zukunftsregion Coburg" association to support ongoing transformation processes across all sectors. Our Transfer department is available for business cooperation topics.

We train people for regional work and life contexts, attract specialists from Germany and abroad to the region and pool expertise in university-wide competence structures, including a pool of experts that is currently being established. In this way, scientific knowledge flows into regional decision-making and development processes – where it is needed in practice.
