Career Path to a Professorship
Connecting Sciences for Impact
Teaching, research and knowledge transfer that make a difference
Professors are more than just teachers: they are mentors, coaches, and role models. They work with young people to develop ideas, skills, and solutions that are needed in the real world, and they implement concrete projects together with students and partners from business and society. In this way, they help shape the region and society and contribute to the university’s continued development.
In doing so, they combine teaching, research, and knowledge transfer into a meaningful and impactful mission: They nurture talent, open up new opportunities, and apply their expertise where it is needed. At the same time, they take advantage of the freedom to pursue applied research, engage in interdisciplinary collaboration, and test new teaching formats. A professorship combines multiple career paths into a single position—offering long-term prospects and meaningful work that truly makes a difference.

Why Coburg University of Applied Sciences and Arts
Shaping knowledge, shaping the future—and making a difference in people’s lives: A professorship at Coburg University of Applied Sciences and Arts combines both.
Here, you’ll work in a practical, interdisciplinary, and impactful way—closely engaged with students, topics, and societal challenges. In a people-centered environment with short lines of communication and room for new ideas, you’ll develop your strengths—and together, you’ll shape a university that combines innovation with responsibility. That’s why our motto is: “For you. For tomorrow. For the region.”
Coburg University of Applied Sciences and Arts has a strong focus on knowledge transfer and therefore works closely with people, businesses, and the community in the region. At our two doctoral centers, individuals with a master’s degree can work directly toward their doctorate—including in collaboration with potential future employers.
Four locations. Four perspectives. One common goal
Coburg University of Applied Sciences and Arts combines a personal atmosphere with the freedom to shape teaching, research, and knowledge transfer—across multiple campuses, each with its own identity and strengths. Every campus combines unique expertise with a creative work environment.
Coburg University of Applied Sciences and Arts has three campuses:
The Friedrich Streib Campus, as the largest campus, is home to the majority of the university’s degree programs and serves as its organizational hub. Here, students and faculty work in modern laboratories, workshops, and seminar rooms—fostering close collaboration and short communication lines.
The Campus Design, located on the outskirts of downtown, brings together creative and technical disciplines. Here, historic architecture meets modern teaching and research buildings—an environment that makes creative work visible and tangible.
On the site of the former slaughterhouse, the university is bringing together key areas of the future: With the CREAPOLIS makerspace, the CRAI AI research center, and additional development areas, an open space for ideas, exchange, and application is taking shape here.
The Lucas Cranach Campus is a relatively new, strongly development-oriented campus that is closely integrated with regional businesses and is known for its innovative academic programs and new forms of learning. There is a special emphasis on hands-on project work and collaborations.
As a professor, you will play an active role in shaping this campus—in terms of content, structure, and culture. You’ll work in a dynamic environment with plenty of room for your own ideas.

The Research and Application Center for Digital Future Technologies (FADZ) in Lichtenfels is a specialized facility where research, education, and industry work closely together. The open studio layout fosters a sense of closeness and encourages collaboration.
The Upper Franconia Technology Transfer Center (TTZ) in Bad Staffelstein is collaborating with Nuremberg and Kronach on the topic of “Digital Intelligence.”
The Bamberg campus is known for its highly specialized academic programs in the field of health sciences. Here, Coburg University of Applied Sciences and Arts offers a dual Bachelor’s degree program in Midwifery—a program that closely integrates academic training with practical experience.
Classes are held at the academies in Bamberg and are closely integrated with regional hospitals and clinical partners. While pursuing their studies, students gain extensive practical experience in obstetrics and support expectant families in a variety of care settings.
