With a strong foundation in the natural sciences and knowledge of architectural history, you’ll explore people’s daily needs. The program focuses on both the aesthetic design and the functional, technical, and economic planning of buildings. The eight-semester program concludes with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree and directly qualifies you to practice as an architect in Germany and the EU.

What We Value

Strong focus on practical application

The program is strongly practice-oriented. You’ll apply your knowledge early on in projects where you collaborate with students from other degree programs. Practical Experience During College

Introductory Practicum

Three people sit around a table with architectural models and blueprints at Hochschule Coburg. An older man in a suit explains something to a younger man and woman, who are attentively listening.

By the start of the fifth semester, students must complete a 9-week basic internship at a construction company in the primary construction sector. It may be completed in segments of at least four weeks each and must take place during the break between semesters. For more information, see our handout on the basic internship. Questions regarding the nature of the basic internship can be directed to the internship coordinator, Prof. Dietmar Kirsch.

Practical Study Semester

A group of young adults from Hochschule Coburg sits at a table, engaging in a creative activity. One person is holding a small white model or artwork, smiling, while others focus on their tasks. The setting is bright with large windows in the background.

The practical semester generally takes place during the fifth semester of study. It is systematically supervised and spans a continuous period of 20 weeks. Students spend 18 weeks on the internship, and two weeks are devoted to a practical seminar at the university. You will gain familiarity with the typical professional activities of architects. The practical semester can also be completed abroad. The university has strong connections with the professional field, and the International Office provides support in finding a suitable internship position.

PraxisPLUS

A degree program with in-depth practical training through the PraxisPLUS model offers you the opportunity to gain more practical experience throughout your studies—without extending the duration of your degree program. This requires a contract for services with a company or institution. You can immediately apply the knowledge you gain in lectures to your work. You’ll be paid for your work at the company, which in turn makes it easier to finance your studies.

Registration and Aptitude Test

Admission Requirements

Prospective students with a general university entrance qualification, a subject-specific university entrance qualification, or a university of applied sciences entrance qualification may apply; under certain conditions, prospective students without a high school diploma may also apply. Admission to the program is not restricted; that is, there is no minimum grade requirement (Numerus Clausus, NC). Instead, applicants must take an aptitude test.

Aptitude Test

The aptitude test gives applicants the opportunity to assess whether their skills match the program’s requirements. In addition to general qualities such as high motivation, commitment, and a willingness to work hard, you’ll need a basic understanding of technical concepts and spatial reasoning skills. During the aptitude test, we’re particularly interested in your creative and design skills. An interview is also part of the aptitude test.

Dates

  1. Complete the online registration form: May 2 through June 15
  2. Invitations to the two-day aptitude test (July 6 and 7, 2026) will be sent via the online portal; notification will be sent by email
